Aromatherapy is an ancient healing art that is currently enjoying a new-found popularity.

Essential  oils are used to stimulate healing through the senses. They are highly concentrated and some can  be dangerous if overused or if placed directly on the skin, so be sure to follow directions on the  package if you decide to experiment with them.

Lavender is one of the few essential oils that can be applied directly to the skin. It is frequently used in lotions and face creams since it is said to diminish wrinkles and bring a healthy glow to the skin over time. The effects of essential oils appear to be cumulative.

Lavender is  known as a comforting, relaxing scent and is frequently recommended by aromatherapists and  other holistic practitioners because of its calming influence. The scent of lavender can balance  body and mind, and help induce sleep. When you are getting enough rest, you’re more likely to  get more out of your dreams because you’re in good health.

There are several ways you can use  lavender to help you achieve restful sleep and dreaming. It can be placed in a diffuser, or on a cotton ball or piece of fabric tucked inside your pillowcase. You can make a room and pillow spray  from water, witch hazel and lavender essential oil.

The mixture should be kept in a dark glass bottle since sunlight can diminish the effects of essential oils. Simply spray a mist in the air around  the bed or spray directly onto the pillows and sheets. You may want to test the fabric first to ensure that it doesn’t stain.

There are hundreds of aromatherapy oils with which you may want to experiment but make  sure you follow safety guidelines or consult with an aromatherapist first.
